Speaking ahead of the crucial fixture against Arsenal, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has revealed that his captain will miss the rest of the season after picking up an injury against Everton.
Luke Shaw will join his captain in the injured list but Van Gaal will welcome Robin Van Persie to the squad who is expected to lead the charge against his former club at Old Trafford. Van Persie will be keen to make a strong impact against Arsenal as he looks to earn a contract extension under Van Gaal while Manchester United fight for third place finish.
Van Gaal also confirmed that Uniteda s star summer signing, Angel Di Maria, is fit to start the game along with his Argentine counterpart Marcos Rojo.
“Angel Di Maria and Robin van Persie are able to play. Rojo has trained this week with us and he could play.”
Di Maria has had a turbulent start to his career at Manchester United and has dropped below Ashley Young and Juan Mata in the pecking order this season. With Di Maria fit, Van Gaal could look to deploy the Argentine behind the striker, in his preferred No 10 position while using Fellaini and Ander Herrera to cover the midfield. Radamel Falcao, though fit, is expected to start from the bench with Robin Van Persie getting the nod ahead of him.
