David De Gea’s long mooted move to Real Madrid collapsed last night after a paperwork fiasco which resulted in the failure of the transfer to be completed before the Spanish transfer deadline.
The longest running transfer saga of this transfer window took the most bizarre of turns last night, when the Spanish transfer window slammed shut. Manchester United and Real Madrid had agreed on the transfer of David De Gea in a deal which involved Keylor Navas moving the other way. However, due to failure to file paperwork on time, the deal could not go through.
Both the parties are playing the blame game and it is still not clear who was at fault for the debacle. Some reports even suggests that the transfer may be allowed to go through today, however, nothing concrete has materialized at the time of filing this report.
After a disappointing day for Manchester United fans, where they lost the services of Javier Hernandez and Adnan Januzaj to Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund respectively, the Red Devils faithful had resigned to lose their star performer. The day went from bad to worse for the fans with news breaking out that the club had reportedly agreed to outlay close to a 80m for the services of 19-year-old French striker Anthony Martial.
Manchester United fans took to Twitter to express their delight at the failure of the transfer to go through and also hailed the wicked genius of Ed Woodward who apparently had a hand to play in the whole fiasco. Some fans even mocked Fiorentino Perez, the Real Madrid president for his failure to complete the deal.

If Real Madrid miss out on De Gea, will Benitez’s anti-United speech this time be “I want to talk about FAX” ?

#MUFC fans, wouldn’t you prefer to have sold De Gea for A?30 million rather than have him rot in the reserves and go for free? Will he play?
