Manchester United Could Have Lost Leicester City Game As McNair ‘Thought He Was A Striker’, Believes Louis Van Gaal

Manchester United have been criticised of late for their rather unimaginative tactics, but manager Louis van Gaal is more concerned about the chance that Leicester City forward Leonardo Ulloa missed, which was created because Red Devils’ defender Paddy McNair neglected his defensive responsibilities.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw with Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy making Premier League history by becoming the first man in the history of the Premier League to score in 11 consecutive matches. Manchester United dominated the game after that, with Bastian Schweinsteiger managing to get the equaliser.

However, in spite of the Red Devils hogging the possession of the ball, Leicester had their chances, none better than when Ulloa got a one-on-one opportunity which United goalkeeper David De Gea saved expertly. However, van Gaal seems to be blaming McNair for almost conceding the goal.

“In the first half, we didna t dominate as much as we did in the second half. So, in the second half, I was waiting on our goal but it didna t come,” van Gaal was quoted saying in the Daily Mirror.

“They also had a good chance; we gave the ball away because [Paddy] McNair thought he was a striker at that moment and then the channels were open and then they could run in them,” he continued.

.

Will the Leicester run come to an end?

Pundits and experts have been forecasting a drop in Leicester City’s and Jamie Vardy’s form somewhere down the season, but with the way the Foxes are playing it is difficult to see them losing many points anytime soon. Even manager Claudio Ranieri has been playing down the expectations by saying that they are not title contenders. However, with top teams like Arsenal FC and Manchester City suffering so many injuries, and Leicester City’s key players being in the form of their life, it seems that it’ll take some time for the Foxes to drop from their perch.
