Torino coach Giampiero Ventura in an interview with Sky Sport Italia confirmed that full back Matteo Darmian has signed for Manchester United for a reported fee of about A?12.9 million.

Matteo Darmian had been heavily linked with the English giants in recent weeks, with all top English newspapers having reported last night that a deal worth A?12.9 million was imminent and only a few minor details needed to be ironed out.

The fee for the 25-year-old however, may rise to A?14.4 millions based on add-ons. Darmian, who has been a main stay in the Turin side for a couple of seasons now, is set to undergo a medical with the Old Trafford outfit on Friday.

Darmian, a product of the AC Milan youth setup, signed for Torino in 2010, after having spent 9 years with the Rossoneri. The full-back will become Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal’s second signing of this transfer window, after having already splashed the cash on PSV winger Memphis Depay, last month.

Giampiero Ventura told Sky Sports Italia-a Ita s true, Darmian will play in the Champions League with Manchester United.a

a Matteo deserves a top team and always dreamed of playing in the Champions League, so now that dream will be realised.a

a In these four years wea ve gone from Serie B and a great depression to the top flight and the enthusiasm of the Europa League,a added Ventura.

a We worked with Darmian for many years and ita s only right he should be given the chance to make his Champions League dream come true.a

.

a A sale can happen, the important thing is that wea re able to plan an even stronger squad in future. Wea re on the right track and as always the objective is to earn a place in Europe.a

Reputed Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio also reported that a deal worth a basic A?12.9 million plus add-ons worth A?1.5 million has been agreed between Manchester United and Torino, with the right back set to fly in on Friday, to complete his move. Manchester United are pushing for the deal to be completed in time for Darmian to fly with the Red Devils on their pre-season tour of America, with the squad departing on Monday.
