Manchester United Making Big Money Deadline Day Bids For Two Defenders

The arrival of David Luiz can recede Marquinhos to the bench

Manchester United are attempting to sign PSG’s Marquinhos and are set to make a A?35m bid for the player, in an attempt to bring him to Old Trafford before the window shuts today.

The Manchester club has been linked with the very talented Brazilian centre back for about two weeks now and it is believed that United have been in negotiations with PSG as Louis van Gaal in desperate need of defensive cover.

The Daily Star reports that the Red Devils are now trying to push through the signing of Marquinhos before the window shuts, with a A?35million bid going in.

The big-spending Les Parisiens paid around A?27m- 30m to AS Roma and secured the services of the youngster. Such a sum for a player so young, especially a defender, is not a regular occurrence and Manquinhos has proved he is worth the money.

Despite being just 20 years old, which is at least five to seven years short of the age defenders peak in, Marquinhos shows incredible maturity on the field and ensures that he almost never has a lapse in concentration. He positions himself well. He is strong and composed at the back and usually comes on top in one of one situations. He is essentially a centre-back, but Blanc has played him as a right back in a few games and the Brazilian has not disappointed. The fact that he has captained the Brazilian U 17 side has also helped his leadership skills and it is visible as he also organizes the defence. The 50m arrival of David Luiz last summer meant that the 20 year old’s playing time got reduced. With his talent, he should be playing every game and because he is so young, he needs as much game-time as he can get, especially because he has every trait to establish himself as a regular for Dunga’s Brazil side as well.

Manchester United could offer the youngster exactly that. He would prove to be an absolutely emphatic signing for the Red Devils and make them a strong force for the Top 4 challenge. Defence is currently United’s biggest weakness and the Brazilian could remedy that nicely.

The other rumor suggests that the Old Trafford outfit is prepared to pay about A?37m for Germany defender Mats Hummels and could make their final attempt in the next 24 hours.

United have been linked with the Dortmund player since last summer and their interest in the defender seems genuine with links not going away ever since. The Dortmund captain has voiced himself a couple of times over the course of the season and said that he wants to stay with the German club and help them climb up the table. However, with Dortmund still languishing in the bottom place, it won’t be a surprise if the German international looks for greener pastures and gets tempted by them. United may well have a chance in landing their long term target.
