Manchester United Agree Terms With Gonzalo Higuain: Report

Manchester United are closing in on Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.

At a time commonly known as “silly season” among football fans, rumors are constantly doing rounds and reports such as this make way every few hours.

Higuain, who was very recently linked with a move to Arsenal, has been reported to have agreed terms with rivals Manchester United according to Italian website CalcioMercatoWeb. .

The report suggests that the former Real Madrid man has agreed a five-year deal worth over A?5 million a season with United, but the Italian club is yet to agree a deal with the club as United’s offer of a 38million is lower than what they want (in the region of a 50m).

Besides Arsenal and Liverpool (who have been linked with the player more than once), Atletico Madrid and Juventus are also supposedly eyeing the forward. Italian paper Gazzetta dello Sport claim Juventus have Higuain on top of their wishlist and think that the player could fit in their squad with ease.

With Robin van Persie’s future at the club doubtful, and Radamel Falcao’s deal not getting extended, Higuain was being eyed as a good addition to the squad. The Manchester club needs firepower in front of goal in the form of strikers as the club has plenty of good attackers in other positions. Higuain netted 18 goals in Serie A last season and is seen as an established striker who could do well under Louis van Gaal and help the club aim for the title and some silverware in the Dutchman’s second year in charge.

United’s main competitor for Higuain’s purchase will be Arsenal who have been tipped as the side most “desperate” to sign the striker.

The player looks set for a move away from Naples this summer after his club failed to qualify for the Champions League. Moreover, Rafael Benitez also left the club for Real Madrid, and it has been believed that that disappointed the Argentine who feels that there aren’t enough reasons for him to stick with the Italian side.
