Manchester City’s out-of-favor striker Stevan Jovetic is close to joining big spending Italian giants Inter Milan on a season long loan, with a mandatory clause to sign him for a 15m plus add-ons next summer.

The Montenegro striker was signed by the Citizens in 2013 for a fee in the region of A?22 million, but has failed to make his mark on the star-studded City side. The 25-year-old who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, has made just 39 appearances for the Etihad outfit, scoring 11 goals in the last two seasons.

Jovetic could be announced as an Inter player in the coming days

The 25-year-old has been pushing for a move away from the Manchester club, and was dropped from City’s Champions League squad, following the arrival of Wilfried Bony from Swansea City. According to reports in Italy, the negotiations between the two club’s are almost complete, with only few minor details to be sorted out.

Jovetic and Edin Dzeko are the only two players who are yet to feature in either of Manchester City‘s two pre-season games, with Dzeko reportedly a transfer target of Roma. The 25-year-old Montenegrin had a better time in Italy with his former club Florentina, where he scored 40 goals in 134 appearances. The terms that have been agreed between the Nerazzurri and Manchester City, involve the striker joining the San Siro outfit on loan for the first season, with a mandatory permanent fee of a 15 million plus bonuses be paid by the Italian club next year. Inter manager Roberto Mancini had reportedly specifically requested for the signing of Jovetic.

A promising career hampered by recurring injuries?

Jovetic was one of the world’s most promising striker’s two years ago, when Manchester City decided to splash the cash on him. However, in his two seasons in England the striker has failed to live up to his potential, partly due to the recurrent injuries that have prevented him from getting an extended run with the team. With Sergio Aguero undoubtedly the main striker for Manchester City, any striker would have had to play second fiddle to the mercurial Argentine. However, the arrival of Wilfried Bony, effectively marked the end of Jovetic’s Manchester City adventure. Inter Milan could very much prove to be the change in scenery the striker requires to reignite his career.
