Manchester City are all set to offer their English midfielder James Milner a fresh four-year contract after the season ends. James Milner who had joined the Cityzens in 2010 from Aston Villa had earlier wished to move out of the club after his contract expires at the end of this season. Liverpool and Arsenal were the front runners for the signature of the England international, with reports even suggesting that a A?100,000-per-week move to Liverpool was imminent.
As reported, Manchester City are planning to offer Milner a new contract which would see him earning A?165,000-a week. The total contract amount for four years sums up to A?34 million which will make James Milner one of the top earners at the club.
Milner had refused to sign a contract extension last year citing lack of regular first team appearances. The 29-year-old has played a total of 31 Premier League games this season which includes 16 substitute appearances. With Jesus Navas in the side, it was evident that Milner would always remain a second choice right midfielder in the squad. But now, it seems that City are adamant to retain the Englishman’s services and are ready to make him one of the top earning players.
Man City also need to comply with the Premier League’s minimum quota of home grown players, within their squad which would be affected with Frank Lampard’s departure this summer. Milner would perfectly suit the club’s cause on the pitch as well as on the sheet with respect to the Premier League regulations.
