Manchester City Reeling As Defender Could Miss Rest Of The Season

Manchester City have suffered a huge set back to their already wrecked season as captain Vincent Kompany could miss the rest of the season.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini revealed ahead of his side’s game against West Ham United that the Belgian has suffered a muscle injury and could be unfit for the coming weeks until the end of the season, a He is injured. It’s very difficult to know the way you will improve if you are injured.

a We don’t know how many weeks he will be out for. He has a muscle injury. We don’t know if he will be fit from now to the end of the season.a

Kompany seemed to have tweaked a muscle and it was visible when he slid to challenge Daley Blind for the ball in last weekend’s Derby against Manchester United. Although Kompany has been in poor form, his absence will definitely take away a sense of leadership that was in City’s back line.

With him injured, it’s likely that Elaquim Mangala will take his place and play along side Martin Demichelis in defense. Mangala’s form hasn’t been anything good either as he found himself relegated to the bench. Mangala had a good run of games when Kompany was out injured earlier in the year, but the defense failed to convince with him and Demichelis playing together.

Manchester City still have some tough games despite how easy they might look on paper. Upcoming opponents West Ham United have the presence of good physical players and we could see the City back line being tested come Sunday. Pellegrini’s men also have to face teams in the bottom half of the table, and with only a handful of games remaining, it’s not exactly the ideal time to play against those teams as they are fighting for survival and can hurt you as we have seen in the last few years. What is worse is that they’ll have to do so with a weakened defense.
