Manchester City Boss Manuel Pellegrini Thrilled With Silva-De Bruyne Partnership

El Mago ruling the hearts of Man City faithful.

Manchester City playmaker David Silva marked his return from injury in the 4-1 win over Championship side Hull City in the League Cup quarter final, prompting manager Manuel Pellegrini to highlight the Spaniard’s importance to the team.

Silva’s injury meant that new recruit Kevin De Bruyne shouldered the creative responsibilities for the team, with the Belgian often being deployed by Pellegrini in Silva’s favoured no.10 role.

De Bruyne has performed extraordinarily during this period, and Pellegrini was said to have had a bit of a selection dilemma, as Silva was making a comeback from his injury. However, the clever Chilean played both the playmakers together in a 4-2-3-1 formation, and the results were there for everyone to see, as City routed Hull 4-1.

“Silva is very important for the team,” Pellegrini was quoted saying by Sky Sports. “He is a quality player. He gives us possession of the ball, which is a style of play that we like to play and he connects well with De Bruyne, and our other technical players. We’ve had so many injures that it’s important that our squad is strong.”

Pellegrini wants to be involved in all competitions

This win over Hull City takes Manchester City to the two-legged semi-finals of the League Cup, where they will face formidable opponents in Roberto Martinez’s Everton side.

Many of the Premier League managers are known to prioritise other competitions over the League Cup, but the Manchester City manager does not seem to be one of them.

“It’s important to be involved in all competitions,” Pellegrini added. “I think we were very solid and didn’t allow any chances for Hull to score. Anything can happen at 1-0 but it was important for us not to concede any chances.”
