Manchester United manager, Louis Van Gaal confirmed that he plans to sell Victor Valdes, after the former Barcelona man’s refusal to play for the reserves last season. The Dutchman also fueled rumors of a potential Angel Di Maria exit, amidst Paris Saint Germain interest, saying he was uncertain about the Argentine’s future at Old Trafford.
Louis Van Gaal blasted Spanish goalkeeper Victor Valdes for failing to comply with the club’s philosophy, after having refused to play for the reserves side last season, at his press conference in Seattle, where Manchester United‘s three new signings, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin were presented. Van Gaal also confirmed that Valdes had not been selected for the tour of United States as he was up for sale. Valdes did not travel with the squad to the Red Devils pre-season tour.
“There is only one way and that is out.”- Louis Van Gaal on Victor Valdes
“He is not selected because he doesn’t follow our philosophy and there is no place for that one player,” Van Gaal said.
“Philosophy is how you play football and how you maintain your match rhythm. For example, he refused last year to play in the second team.
“That is one aspect of our philosophy… but there are a lot of other aspects in the philosophy of how you have to play like a goalkeeper at Manchester United.
“When you are not willing to follow the principles of the philosophy, then there is only one way and that is out.
“It is a big disappointment. We thought that he would follow our philosophy. It is a pity because we have given him the opportunity to rehabilitate, gave him a contract and then he is fit to play.
“If you do not play in the first team, our philosophy is to play in the second team and he did not do that.”
The Red Devils manager, further cast doubt over the future of A?59.7 million record signing, Angel Di Maria who had a dismal start to life at Old Trafford, having suffered a serious dip in form along with injuries preventing the Argentine from settling in to life in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old is reportedly unsettled at Old Trafford, with a move to long time admirers Paris Saint Germain looking more likely. The Parc des Princes club, had tried to sign Di Maria last season, however, due to Financial Fair Play sanctions, they were unable to do so. The 27-year-old is not a part of the Red Devils’ pre-season tour, as he was granted an extended leave due to his participation in the Copa America.
The 63-year-old when quizzed about Di Maria’s future, said: “We shall see,”
“In football, it is a process, as I have said many times before in press conferences. It’s not clear in one day.
“It’s a process for Angel Di Maria, it’s a process for Manchester United and we shall see.
“But he is still a member of Manchester United and he has said to me he will come on July 25.”
What next for Victor Valdes, David De Gea, Manchester United and Real Madrid?
The explosive nature of Van Gaal’s press conference, does leave a question mark regarding some of the biggest transfer saga’s of this transfer window. It raises more questions than the answers that Van Gaal provided.
If Victor Valdes is up for sale, does that mean that David De Gea is staying? If De Gea is not staying, then are Manchester United going to start their next title challenge, with the addition of big names like Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin, but without a recognized shot-stopper?
If Dea Gea does indeed stay, what happens to Real Madrid, who have already parted ways with club legend Iker Casillas, to make way for the Spaniard. Does Real Madrid give up their dream for signing the 24-year-old Spanish keeper and look for other alternatives, or will it be Manchester United scuppering for goal-keeper’s towards the end after such a successful transfer window so far.
What next for Di Maria and Victor Valdes? While it is almost looking certain that Di Maria would be heading to the French capital, what would happen of the former Barcelona shot-stopper?
What will happen next in the life of these world class players, when at one time it all looked like a Domino was waiting to fall, and the transfers would follow. But with so many futures intertwined together, complications were bound to arise. What next for these superstars? Your guess is as good as ours!
