Lothar Mathaus Accuses Guardiola Of Playing Mind Games With His Own Players ; Hails Mourinho As The Best

Former Bayern Munich player and legend Lothar Matthaus has hailed the former Real Madrid Jose Mourinho as the best coach in the world, insisting he is better than Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola whom he accused of playing mind games with his own players.

The debate about who is the best manager in the world often draws up two names – Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho has won league titles in Portugal, Spain, Italy, and England, along with winning the Champions League with Inter and Porto. While Guardiola won 14 of the 19 trophies he competed with FC Barcelona and has won Bundesliga twice with Bayern Munich.

‘Chelsea FC boss the best’

Though Mourinho and Guardiola are often regarded as the two leading coaches in world football, dividing the opinions of the fans across the globe, Germany and Bayern Munich legend Lothar Mathaus reckons it is Jose Mourinho who is the best in the world and not the Bayern Munich manager.

“Pep is not the best coach in the world,” Mathaus told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “I prefer Mourinho. He is the No.1, because Mourinho is more transparent and more direct than Guardiola.”

“I’ve been told that from the players he has coached: He tells you everything to your face.”

Guardiola to leave Bayern ; Klopp is Mathaus’ choice to replace him

Guardiola’s future at Bayern Munich is subject to speculation with the manager now in his final year of contract.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mathaus said that Guardiola will leave the club since he has not signed a deal yet.

.

“He will go,” Mathaus said. “What sense does it make to wait until winter to renew your contract? Either you do it now or you’re going.”

“I have a lot of respect for Guardiola, he has won so much, but he must be clearer. Why don’t you just sign a deal? Speak clearly!”

“I have a German favourite to succeed him: Klopp. There are two foreign candidates: Mourinho, but he will not leave Chelsea, and Carlo Ancelotti.”

‘Draxler and Goetze not good enough’

Mathaus went onto declare in the interview that Bayern Munich star Mario Goetze and Schalke wonderkid Julian Draxler are not good enough given their weak mentality.

“They are good, young and technically sound, but they do not have the character of a champion. “

“There is always something missing for them to be at 100 per cent. If you’re G tze and not playing, then go to the coach and he puts you on. But he does not do that.”

“The two are not guys like Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo or Arturo Vidal.”

No offers for Guardiola

Despite reports linking the Spaniard with jobs at FC Barcelona and Manchester City, Guardiola had said that there were no offers on the table. Former Bayern Munich captain Stefan Effenberg had been quoted saying by Bild that Guardiola was set to leave, while Qatar-based network beIN Sports has twice reported that he is set to join City.

However, Guardiola dismissed both claims.

a Maybe Effenberg knows more than me,a he said, adding: a I have not received an offer from any other club in this world.a
