He also added that the previous summer, Inter rejected a a 20m bid for the Croatian and the club values the player at nothing less that a 30m.
Kovacic has been regarded as his nationa s next great No. 10. He is a classic playmaker with amazing attacking threat, but at the same time he has the immense potential to play ahead or behind that role.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is said to think that Kovacic could be a good replacement for departing skipper Steven Gerrard.
Kovacic is an extremely talented player and he has shown that already in his career. Just 21 years old, Kovacic has plenty of experience at the international stage as well and was an indispensable part of the Inter side for some time. However, his recent performances have made Mancini count on him from the bench and the fact that Mancini will need money from somewhere to finance the big moves he wants to make this summer, the possibility of Kovacic leaving the Serie A club – which would have looked bizarre last season – looks in the offing now.
Reports in the Italian media suggest that Inter and Barcelona met this past Wednesday to discuss Kovacic’s possible move there to replace Xavi, who is expected to leave once his contract is up this summer.
It seems that interest from the two sides is pretty heavy in the youngster. But both the sides would have to up their offer considerably to match Inter’s valuation of the player. The fact that Mancini is interested in Skrtel, whose contract negotiations have hit a standstill, could make things happen for Liverpool.
