Former Liverpool captain Phil Thompson has predicted that winger Raheem Sterling will leave the club at the end of the season.
Raheem Sterling’s future has been under severe limelight ever since he turned down a A?100k a-week contract and gave an unsanctioned interview regarding it.
Former Liverpool defender Phil Thompson who won seven league titles with the club believes the 20 year-old will be off in the summer, irrespective of the recent lull about his contract.
He told Sky Sports News, “I think it will be very difficult for him to stay at Liverpool now. He’s shown all the signs that he’s ready and prepared to leave the club.”
The England international is preparing to put his Merseyside house on the market, which has raised further doubts about his future. Sterling has taken the first steps towards putting the property in the seaside town of Southport, 20 miles north of Liverpool, on the market although he has yet to decide whether to rent it out or sell up. He is believed to be looking for a new property in London. With Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea reportedly “monitoring his development”, this could be a worrying sign for Brendan Rodgers.
Liverpool are adamant they will not sell him this summer as he has two years left on his current A?35,000-a-week deal.
Sterling joined Liverpool from Queens Park Rangers in 2010.
