Liverpool are interested in a move for Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev, who is currently on loan at Villarreal.
Spanish paper Marca, often called the mouthpiece of the club, have revealed that the Reds are weighing up a bid for the Real Madrid star, and could a sum in the region of a 20m for the player. The Russian international, who has been with Real Madrid since 2002, is currently on loan with La Liga side Villarreal but he is expected to return to Real Madrid in the summer. The Yellow Submarine are keen on keeping the player for another season but Real Madrid have reportedly ‘refused to negotiate with Villarreal but instead they have been speaking to other foreign clubs’. The European Champions want a 30m for Cheryshev, but Liverpool would try to get the sum down by at least a 10m
Liverpool are looking at the Russian as a backup for PSV star Memphis Depay who has been heavily linked with the Merseysiders recently. Brendan Rodgers also hailed the outstanding youngster but Liverpool face stiff competition from Manchester United and given Louis van Gaal’s relationship with the Dutchman, he could go to the 20 time league champions.
The Reds need to add quality in the squad in the summer and naturally want to add players who could provide just that especially as the Reds will be competing in four competitions (Europa League possibly).
Cheryshev is an important reason why Villarreal are doing so well this term. The attacker has 6 goals and 9 assists this season. The left winger is a good offensive threat and likes to regularly cut inside and attack centrally, giving the opposition defenders a nightmare. He is quick, direct, two-footed and his strong dribbling and powerful shooting make him a big menace for the opposition. He is also versatility and can take players on with conviction. In fact, he impressed so greatly in Real’s pre-season that Carlo Ancelotti quickly endorsed a contract extension till 2017 for the player.
The Russian came through the club’s youth system and despite playing plenty of games for Real Madrid B, he has failed to break into the first team. He has spent the last two seasons on loan – at Sevilla and now Villarreal – and is naturally keen to move away to a club where he could get plenty of regular football. AS reported in January that Madrid were keen for him to return, but it now seems that Los Blancos will part with the 24 year-old and Liverpool might be the one sweeping his services.
