Liverpool and Xherdan Shaqiri reports seems to run hand in hand since the summer.
The Reds have visibly been in for the player since the World Cup and wanted to sign the talismanic Swiss in the summer itself. However, Bayern Munich at the time, were keen to hold on to the player they thought of as the long term replacement of Franck Ribery.
Developments over the past two months have shown that with three league starts, Shaqiri is not exactly indispensable at Allianz Arena. The Switzerland winger has been told he can leave in the upcoming transfer windows.
Liverpool were chasing the player in the summer, but instead decided to go for Adam Lallana. Whether Shaqiri was thought as a back-up to Lallana in case the latter went to Tottenham, or was a separate target is not known. But Liverpool did apparently let Bayern know they wanted the 23 year old. Their advances were rejected by the German club.
Since then, the winger has gone on record and said that he feels that no matter how he performs, he will never get a favored spot at Bayern and Swiss reports have time and again shown his dissatisfaction with his role in the club. Hence, it seems pretty clear that he wants to leave.
Juventus have been chasing the player for a while now, and seemed to be very close to getting the player. Wolfsburg also joined the chase, and the most recent of the clubs to join his pursuit is Inter Milan. But it seems Liverpool never quite gave up on their man and continued to keep tabs on him. It is being reported that the Premier League side. Juventus and Inter have been said to want the player on loan till the end of the season, and then sign a permanent deal for the player. Liverpool’s primary aim this season would be to finish in the top 4 and ensure they begin a process of sustained achievements. Despite the Reds needing a striker and goalkeeper more, and having a lot of attacking options in the form of Sterling, Coutinho, Lallana and Markovic, getting Shaqiri would be a no-brainer. The player will be able to add another dimension to the Reds squad and be a huge threat to have within the ranks. Brendan Rodgersa most successful signings have come in the winter a Coutinho and Sturridge a and even though the boss has ruled out major transfer activity this January, Liverpool fans would be hoping he can get this talented attacker for the team and the club can ensure a top 4 finish.
