The Times editor Tony Evans confirmed Liverpool FC were indeed interested in Hoffenheim attacker Roberto Firmino.

Roberto Firmino is the subject of heavy interest from Premier League clubs Manchester Unitedand Liverpool . . The Brazilian international was reported to be heading to Old Trafford this summer but new reports have emerged claiming Liverpool are ready to reignite their interest in the player by making a swoop for him in the next week. It would make perfect sense given Raheem Sterling is almost certainly out. Paul Joyce of the Express reported: The Anfield club is keen on Hoffenheima s attacking midfielder who has also been tracked by Manchester United. Their interest is not dependent on the departure of Sterling, who has been the subject of two rejected bids from Manchester City. The latest was worth a guaranteed fee of A?35m. Liverpool will decide whether to progress with their interest next week.

The report of Liverpool’s interest in the Brazilian has been further cemented by the comments of The Times editor Tony Evans who said that the club was indeed looking at the attacker to come in this summer to replace Raheem Sterling but he thought it was unlikely that a deal for him would materialize.

He said, a Therea s going to be a lot of interest in for him Ia d expect him to head to a Champions League club but hea s a name to replace Sterling with at the moment.

a Without the attraction of Champions League football, with a relatively low wage structure, Ia m not so sure the transfer will happen. The fee will be way above A?20m, at least in the A?25m range and one of the things they do like about him is his versatility. Ita s been a constant thread in Liverpoola s transfer business, players that can play in all kind of positions.”

Firmino has scored 49 goals in 153 games in Germany in the last five seasons and has firmly established himself in coach Dunga’s team – currently in action at the Copa America having scored three times for Brazil in his seven appearances.
