Liverpool FC suffered a huge blow with star midfielder Philippe Coutinho being ruled out for the trip to Newcastle United.
.
The Brazil star was on course to be fit for the midweek tie in the League Cup, before manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that he will miss the tie but was on track to be fit for the Newcastle game.
However, the Brazil star has failed to recover from a hamstring injury he suffered in the 4-1 thrashing of Manchester City at the Etihad stadium, a fortnight ago.
As per reports in Liverpool Echo, the Brazil international will now stay back at Merseyside and continue his recovery, with his side looking to win the tie and move within three points of a top four place and six off the top of the table.
Kolo Toure back to fitness
However, not all was doom and gloom on the injury front for the Reds, with the fears of a centre-back crisis averted following news that Kolo Toure is fit to travel to Tyneside.
Liverpool had only Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel as their two central defender, following injuries to Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez.
Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge are expected to stake a claim for a place in the starting XI, having been fit for over two weeks now and playing a part in all games since the City win.
Besides Jon Flanagan, who is continuing his recovery from a long term injury, the Reds have a full squad to chose from.
