Pako Ayestaran has been linked with a return to Anfield as Liverpool owners have decided to do a considerable shake up of the backroom staff dismissing assistant manager Colin Pascoe and first team coach Mike Marsh. It has been rumored that former assistant manager under Rafa Benitez Pako Ayestaran will be asked to take over as Brendan Rodgers’s number 2. No approach has yet been made to the Spaniard by Liverpool.

Ayestaran made history in Israel as he grabbed a treble as manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv. , the Spaniard spoke of his love for the Reds.

“I watch as many Liverpool matches as I can and I still love the club,a he said.

a Brendan Rodgers has done an excellent job. The way Brendan approaches games is very enjoyable to watch. He likes his teams to attack and be positive.a

“When I look back on my time at Liverpool, I keep in my mind the positives. The great moments, great experiences and great people. The positives are more important than anything that happened towards the end of my time there.

“I have so many unbelievable memories from my time at Liverpool. That was probably the best part of my life.

a That feeling of being part of the Liverpool family and being loved by the supporters.

a The respect everyone shows you in England but especially at Liverpool for the work you do, thata s impossible to feel anywhere else.a

The reason an interview from March has been rehashed is because not much has been heard from the 52 year-old recently and this interview gives an insight into his relationship and love for Liverpool.

Ayestaran is familiar with the club having spent three years under Benitez, and the emotional connect could tempt him to come and take the assistant job. However, it has been recently reported that the Spaniard is not interested in the assistant role and will only be taking a job in the managerial capacity anywhere. Liverpool have not yet made any approach to Ayestaran or held any discussions with him. After a history making treble in Israel, it seems like a fair demand.
