Liverpool FC are set to offer their Portugal U21 starlet Tiago Ilori a new deal as per the interview by his father, Kola Ilori.
The Portugal U21 international, who earned rave reviews for his performances against England and Italy in the ongoing U21 Euro Championship, currently has two years remaining on contract.
The . report says that Ilori’s father in an interview to radio station Antena 1 said that Liverpool FC want to renegotiate his son’s current contract of A?18,000 per week in order to tie the talented 22 year old defender down to the Anfield club for his best years.
“We talked last week about the future of Tiago,” Kola Ilori said in the interview.
He also went onto say that Liverpool are looking into giving the youngster more chances with the current squad. “They say he will have a chance and will go on the pre-season tour of Thailand,” Kola said.
Kola also revealed Sunderland had shown interest in signing Tiago Ilori on loan from Liverpool FC.
‘There are other clubs interested, like Sunderland,’ he added
The highly rated defender had signed from Sporting Lisbon in 2013 in a deal reported to be around A?7 million.
However, the Portuguese is yet to play even a single game for Liverpool FC. In his first season, the defender was sent out on loan to Spanish side Granada after six barren months at Merseyside, where he was regular in the first team and had a very solid season.
Following the move to Granada, the player was then send of loan to Ligue 1 side Girondins de Bordeaux in 2014-15. While he was injured for the first part of the season, Ilori featured regularly towards the end for the French side, making 12 appearances and scoring a goal in the process.
The news that the player, who is making waves for the Portugal side in the U21 championship, keeping clean sheets against talented English and Italian sides containing the likes of Harry Kane and Domenico Berardi, is close to a new deal at Liverpool FC should be met with great enthusiam by the Merseyside giants’ fanbase.
Contrary to the criticism leveled at them, Liverpool FC will have, alongside Tiago Ilori, tied down their best players, including Coutinho, Skrtel, Sturridge, Henderson, Toure, Ibe, Flannagan, and Andre Wisdom to new deals within last 8 months.
