Former Liverpool FC Player Believes Manchester United’s David De Gea Is The “Player Of The Season”

Former Liverpool player John Aldridge believes David de Gea has not only been Manchester United‘s player of the season, but the country’s player of the season in this campaign as the Spaniard has got the Red Devils a lot of points due to his individual efforts.

During Liverpoola s clash away at Manchester United in December, De Gea was in absolutely sensational form and he individually made sure Liverpool got nothing from that game and was successful against the efforts of Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli. Not only the particular game, De Gea has been in fantastic form all season and has helped United concede a lot lesser than they would have with their very vulnerable defence.

He wrote in his Liverpool ECHO column, “Ita s funny because even though we lost 3-0 at Old Trafford in December we played really well and if wea d have had David de Gea wea d have won 3-0. He was massive in that game for them. Hea s the Player of the Year this season in my eyes because hea s given them an extra 15 points”.

The 56 year old, who has 50 goals for Liverpool, believes it will be a tight affair on Sunday when Premier League’s biggest rivals take on each other. He added, “I think it will be tight on Sunday. I dona t think there will be an awful lot of goals in it. Both sides have got decent defensive records and youa ve just got to keep it tight at the back and no silly mistakes.”

The former Red also added that Brendan Rodgers is right in focusing to chase Manchester City who are struggling at the moment:

“As for Brendan Rodgers targeting second place, youa ve just got to look at the next game and soldier on and see where it leads you but absolutely look at chasing down Manchester City. Ita s opened up now with Citya s lack of form since we beat them. Chelsea are stuttering but unfortunately therea s too much of a bridge to gap there to catch them.”
