Javier Manquillo - Liverpool right back

Atletico Madrid defender Javier Manquillo’s Liverpool FC loan spell could be cut short as the player is deemed surplus to requirement, with Benfica interested as per reports in Portuguese press.

Javier Manquillo has been reported to be one among quite a few Liverpool FC players who could depart the club following a disappointing season for the club in which they finished sixth.

Manquillo, who arrived from Atletico Madrid on a two year loan deal made no appearance in the second half of the season as Liverpool FC switched to a back three formation, rendering the player who, admittedly, does not look comfortable going forward, of no use to Brendan Rodgers.

The Portuguese champions, Benfica, are reportedly in a battle to keep current right back Maxi Pereira who has turned down the offer of a new contract. The club have begun sounding out replacements for the outgoing 31-year-old, including Atletico Madrid owned Javier Manquillo according to reports in . A Bola.

The report discussed the potential replacements for Maxi Pereira, with Manquillo pictured alongside two further possible options to come in, namely Mario Fernandes of CSKA Moscow and Mayke of Cruziero.

The reports says that all the three players are a candidates to occupy the place that may be left vacant in Rui Vittoriaa s squada should Uruguay international Maxi Pereira opt to move elsewhere.

Atletico Madrid had given Liverpool FC the option to buy the player at the end of his two year loan. Indicating quite clearly that they do not see the youngster as a part of their future.

However, Manquillo featured only 19 times in all competitions for the Reds in his debut season on Merseyside and while he performed adequately with his defensive solidity notable, it appears he did little to convince Rodgers he is the right long-term solution for Liverpool FC vacant right back spot.

Liverpool FC have already moved in to secure the services of Southampton and England right back Nathanial Clyne according to reliable reports in the English media.

Liverpool FC also have the injured Jon Flanagan and Andre Wisdom on their books at Anfield, ita s certainly hard to see a space for Manquillo in Rodgersa squad.

With Manquilloa s days at Anfield appearing to be numbered, a move to Benfica where he could play Champions League football next season, could prove tempting for every one involved, including Atletico Madrid, Liverpool FC and the defender.
