Atletico Madrid defender Javier Manquillo’s Liverpool FC loan spell could be cut short as the player is deemed surplus to requirement, with Benfica interested as per reports in Portuguese press.
Javier Manquillo has been reported to be one among quite a few Liverpool FC players who could depart the club following a disappointing season for the club in which they finished sixth.
Manquillo, who arrived from Atletico Madrid on a two year loan deal made no appearance in the second half of the season as Liverpool FC switched to a back three formation, rendering the player who, admittedly, does not look comfortable going forward, of no use to Brendan Rodgers.
The Portuguese champions, Benfica, are reportedly in a battle to keep current right back Maxi Pereira who has turned down the offer of a new contract. However, Manquillo featured only 19 times in all competitions for the Reds in his debut season on Merseyside and while he performed adequately with his defensive solidity notable, it appears he did little to convince Rodgers he is the right long-term solution for Liverpool FC vacant right back spot.
