Liverpool player Adam Lallana has admitted he hasn’t fulfiled on expectations this season, especially given his price tag.
The 26-year old was bought from Southampton in the summer for A?24million and naturally, a lot was expected from the England international.
The player has had a stop-start first season at Merseyside with recurring injuries. He is now facing a battle to be fit for Sundaya s semi-final with Aston Villa at Wembley, as he is currently out with a groin injury. He missed pre-season with knee ligament damage and was out in January with another injury. He has greatly struggled to reproduce last season’s emphatic form and just five goals in 35 appearances illustrate the matter.
a Ita s not gone great,a admitted Lallana
a It started off with injury and Ia ve had another over the last few weeks with a few more in between.
a Ita s been quite frustrating if Ia m being honest and I havena t been out on the pitch as much as Ia d have liked.
a Getting injured and missing pre-season I feel played a big part in my recurring injuries. Ita s a very important part for a footballer to get the basis of the fitness in.”
Lallana also said that he wants to be part of the remaining fixtures for the Reds as Brendan Rodgers side still maintain some hope of making the top-4 and also have the FA Cup to focus on.
a But I want to be fully fit for the run-in, wea ve still got an outside chance of making the top four, and thata s something I want to be a part of. And obviously the last game of the season is the FA Cup final.
a Ia m looking to come back in next season, get a good basis in with my fitness and kick on from there.”
Liverpool have to do well in the business end of the season and hope that they can win every remaining game in the league, that also includes an away game to Chelsea, and at the same time hope Manchester City drop points.
In the FA Cup, they face Aston Villa on Sunday in the FA Cup semi-final and would hope they can get a step closer to the Wembley final.
