In India, retired cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is worshiped as a sporting god. Yet, it looks like Lionel Messi has edged past him in the list of most searched sportsperson in the country.
In a list of the most searched sportsperson of the year in India released by Google, one would expect Sachin Tendulkar to be topping the list given his huge fan following in the country, but Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has beaten him to come 2nd in the list, which is topped by the young batsman who is taking over from Tendulkar as the most popular Indian Sportsman, Virat Kohli.
The other footballer on the list is none other than Messi’s arch rival Cristiano Ronaldo. The top 10 is dominated by cricket and tennis players, but the two biggest names in world football are ranked second and fifth respectively. The list also features the likes of M.S Dhoni, Roger Federer and Sania Mirza.
