Backing Cristiano Ronaldo to end his career at Real Madrid, agent Jorge Mendes revealed why the Portuguese international chose to play for Manchester United over other European clubs. According to Ronaldoa s super-agent, Sir Alex Fergusona s faith in the then Sporting Lisbon player helped the winger sign for the Red Devils in 2003.

.

Speaking at the launch of Ronaldoa s much hyped documentary, Mendes revealed that while other clubs were interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Alex Ferguson eventually brought the Portuguese winger to Old Trafford after promising to give him a chance with the first team at United.

He will play at least 50% of the games

As reported by Goal.com, Alex Ferguson was instrumental in bringing Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford as he promised his agent that the Portuguese international would get the opportunity to play 50% of the games at United.

“In 2003, all the biggest clubs wanted to buy Cristiano but they wanted to keep him for one more year at Sporting.

a The only one who wanted at that time to buy Cristiano, and to bring him at that time, was Sir Alex Ferguson.

“I was with Sir Alex Ferguson the night before [Sporting played United in a friendly in which Ronaldo starred] and he told me ‘Jorge, leave it with me. If he comes with me, he will play at least 50 per cent of the games’.”

a Jorge, leave it with me.'
a Jorge, leave it with me.’

According to recent reports, Cristiano Ronaldo and his agent have not ruled out a move back to Manchester United. However, his agent believes that the Portuguese superstar is likely to finish his career at Real Madrid despite being strongly linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
