The player was a sensation last season in the Premier League and there was a constant debate over whether he is better than Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling and Everton’s Ross Barkley. He was also joked to be the only good thing that came out of David Moyes’s Old Trafford spell. However, the talented youngster has found game-time very limited due to the arrival of numerous attackers in the summer. Speculation has thus grown over the past few months that the 19-year-old may be loaned out by United in order to increase his playing time. Apparently United rejected a loan offer from Serie A side Genoa to take Januzaj on a temporary deal. Everton were also said to be interested in the player’s short-term services.
It is unclear whether PSG want the player on loan till the end of the season, or buy him permanently. There are some rumors going around saying the Parisian side is making a bid in the region of A?18m- A?22 m for the 19 year old. While this looks a lot of money on a raw player, few will dispute Januzaj’s abilities and if last season’s performances are anything to go by, the youngster would be a big talent in a few years. The Belgian international needs game time to make sure his talent doesn’t get wasted. Against Cambridge, he didn’t look his best. To be fair to him, he has hardly played this season so rustiness would only be natural.
Former Manchester United coach Phil Neville also said that the player doesn’t have his rhythm at the moment and needs game time to get it back.
“He’s just not got his rhythm,” said Neville in his role as a pundit for BBC’s coverage of the goalless draw with Cambridge. “He will be a world-beater I’m almost certain of that.
“He’s just not playing enough games to find his rhythm in games like this.”
PSG find themselves in the third place in the Ligue 1 table at the moment. They train leaders Lyon and second placed Marseille in a very exciting title race. Last season’s comfortable league winners have been far from their best this season and the addition of young Januzaj, short term or for a long time, could prove to be a good boost to the squad that has some disgruntled figures. The French club has been linked with the player for a long while now, with reports doing rounds last summer as well. Now that the player’s agent has confirmed contact between the two clubs, the story has credibility.
