Jamie Vardy of Leicester City has now scored in 9 consecutive Premier League games, with only Ruud Van Nistelrooy ahead of him with 10.

Leicester City’s dramatic rise to the top of the table has been highlighted by the attacking prowess of 28 year old English International Jamie Vardy, who has found the back of the net in 9 consecutive Premier League games. His latest goal came from the spot as he scored a penalty to make it 12 games this season and hand The Foxes the win against Watford.

Their 2-1 victory moved them to third place on the table, separated only by goal difference. Leicester City now stand equal on points with Manchester City and Arsenal at 25 each having played one game more than either of the clubs and their success has, to a large extent, centered around Jamie Vardy, a player they signed from a non-league club when they themselves were in the Championship and who had, at one point in his career, considered quitting football.

.

Jamie Vardy is breaking records

He is now on the cusp of a unique Premier League record held by Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who scored in 10 consecutive games, in his final eight matches in the 2002-03 season and his two in the 2003-2004 season. This means that though Vardy now holds the record for most consecutive games a player has scored in during one season, to equal Van Nistelrooy’s achievement he must score in Leicester City’s next game against Newcastle United.

Together with Riyad Mahrez, who handed him the ball for him to take the penalty kick in the game against Watford, the duo have been firing the goals in for the Foxes and manager Claudio Ranieri has definitely brought his managerial A-game to a side that was battling relegation throughout last season.
