Both, Inter and AC Milan, are performing extremely poorly this season and on Sunday, when they played against each other, they both proved it why by playing out a boring draw at San Siro as there was a notable lack of quality. Inter Milan were denied a penalty for a clear handball and Roberto Mancini later criticized the referee Luca Benti for his poor decision making.
Both the teams failed to create any clear chances in the first half that provided little action, although AC Milan did see Alex goal ruled out for offside. To the surprise of many, Inter coach Roberto Mancini dropped Shaqiri from the starting XI of this match and as expected, the Nerazzuri looked terrible in the attack in first 45 minutes.
However, Inter did start the second half on a positive note as Rodrigo Palacioa s goal was disallowed before Nerazzuri had penalty claims turned away by the referee.
Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini was annoyed with the quality of refereeing and criticized Luca Benti after the match.
“I take consolation from the way we played for 70 minutes of tonighta s match. We did well and tried to win. AC Milan defended well and were lucky at times,” Mancini said.
“Ia m pleased with the team, they gave everything, but it was a definite penalty. There needs to be consistency in the refereeing.
“Ia ve said nothing for 20 games but I think I can say it now.”
On the other hand, AC Milan coach Pippo Inzaghi said after the game that there was no handball and denied the claims of Roberto Mancini.
“It was an involuntary handball,” Pippo Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.
“It’s true that penalties have been given for less, but I would not give a penalty for that.”
A draw at San Siro means that AC Milan stay one place and one point above Inter Milan in ninth.
