Ings Favours Summer Liverpool Move; Deal Expected To Be Struck In Coming Weeks

Liverpool have been severely linked with Burnley’s Danny Ings in the past few days.

Reports broke out a few days before about the Merseysiders being interested in the England U 21 player. There were talks of the Reds buying the player for around A?4 million, and then loaning him back to Burnley for the rest of the season.

These reports prompted the Burnley officials to release a statement which claimed that it would be against the Premier League rules for such a deal to happen as loaning back immediately violates them.

Burnley obviously didn’t want their prized asset leaving them before the end of the season as he is crucial to their Premier League survival. Burnley stated last week that the player would not be leaving the club in January.

The Independent have now reported that a deal for the player will be agreed by both the clubs in the coming weeks, and the player who favors a move to Anfield, would arrive in the summer. They write: Burnley have refused to jeopardise their fight for Premier League survival by letting Ings go in the January transfer window. But in a highly unusual arrangement, Liverpool are now expected to agree terms with the Turf Moor club in the next few weeks, in a deal which would see Ings arrive in June a possibly for a fee of A?5m

Sky Sports also reported: Burnley striker Danny Ings has not signed a pre-contract agreement with Real Sociedad and is thought to favour a summer move to Liverpool, according to Sky sources.

Ings started his career in the youth ranks at Southampton, before moving to Bournemouth. He made his first-team debut in 2009 and scored eight goals in 30 appearances for the Cherries. He moved to Burnley in August 2011, for a sum believed to be in the region of around A?1million. He has scored 39 times in 114 matches for the Clarets. It is not understating when saying he was a key part of why Burnley got promoted as last season, he scored 21 goals in the Championship for the side and won the Championship Player of the Year award. He has scored four goals in seven appearances for England U-21 side, and if he continues his goal scoring form, he is surely going to get a senior call-up very soon.

This arrangement would make sense for all parties as Liverpool don’t need his services at the moment, with the attacking department practically packed (Rickie Lambert rejected a late deadline move to Aston Villa). Ings wouldn’t get much playing time at Liverpool at the moment. And Burnley need him as he is an important part of their quest for Premier League survival. Since the player will be a free agent in the summer, getting A?5m for him sounds like a good deal.
