NorthEast United FC on Friday announced the signing of Carlos Javier Lopez, who would be sporting the number 44 jersey, as a replacement for injured Kondwani Mtonga.

The Hero Indian Super League side from Guwahati have been ravaged with injuries and recently replaced Miguel Garcia with Andre Bikey. Lopez will be their second signing in three days, as Kondwani failed to recover from an ACL strain and meniscal injury.

Kondwani, who had been retained by NEUFC from season 1 alongside Miguel Garcia, ironically will also have his Indian Super League 2015 campaign cut short alongside the Portuguese.

With NEUFCa s marquee player Simao Sabrosa returning last match, the team managed to defeat Chennaiyin FC and the availability of the Argentine Carlos Lopez against defending champions Atletico de Kolkata is bound to imbibe the boys with further confidence. The Highlanders who play hosts for todaya s game will look for a point as they look to avoid the last spot.
