Kerala Blasters Football Club have announced, after their emphatic 2-0 victory over FC Pune City, that their marquee player Carlos Marchena has left the franchise, and headed back to Spain. However, the Blasters also had some good news, saying that they have signed former Everton FC forward James McFadden, as a replacement for the Spaniard.
This news comes as a bit of a shock for the Indian football community, as Marchena was not really known to be carrying any injuries. According to local media . Manorama, the 36-year-old had his differences with the team physio and other members of the coaching staff, which is why he headed back home.
However, Kerala Blasters FC CEO Viren D’silva said to the local newspaper, “Unfortunatea lya , Carlos Marchena has gone back to Spain due a to a personal reasona sa , and will not be with a Kerala Blasters FC a for the rest of the season. We thank him for his time here and wish a a hima alla the best. We area currentlya a in a talks with James McFadden as a a a possible new international signing.”
Kerala Blasters FC, who were runners-up, last season have been performing dismally, in the 2015 edition of the Indian Super League (ISL), where they have been languishing at the bottom, for quite some time.
However, after former manager Peter Taylor left the club and Terry Phelan joined as the new head coach, things seem to have turned around for the South Indian team, as they beat top-dogs FC Pune City 2-0, to heave themselves out of the bottom spot.
