Veteran goalkeeper Iker Casillas has decided to stay at Real Madrid no matter what happens with David De Gea.
The rumour mills in the press have been working round and round for the longest time now to figure out the future of two Spanish goalkeepers a Iker Casillas and David De Gea. Casillas is reportedly on the fringes and is ready to bid adieu to his illustrious Real Madrid career. On the other hand, De Gea is believed to be ready to move to Spain to replace the current ‘Los Blancos’ captain.
While various sources have nearly declared that De Gea will be a part of Ancelotti’s squad next season, it seems that he will face competition from Casillas for the number 1 role. If recent reports are to be believed, both Casillas and the club want the Castilla graduate to stay.
“If you want to stay at Real Madrid, you can. We are counting on you for next year.” According to Spanish daily, Marca, this is what Real Madrid’s director general, Jos A?ngel SA?nchez told Casillas. Apparently the keeper is willing to stay at the club and president Florentino Perez is ready to give the three-time Champions League winner a chance to fight for his place.
Casillas turns 34-years old this year and it is only practical that the club makes way for his replacement this summer. De Gea is almost certain to don the white kit next season and going by the two playersa form, the current Manchester United keeper is sure to be the first choice between the sticks. This means that Casillas will have to warm the bench for majority of the next season. This leaves the current second-choice keeper, Keylor Navasa future in jeopardy. If Casillas does not leave the club and De Gea joins in the summer, it is highly likely that the Costa Rica international will look for a move away from the Spanish capital.
