. Real Madrid great and current FC Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas expressed his delight as his former teammate and good friend Sergio Ramos extended his contract with Real Madrid.
Ramos had been linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu in recent times with Manchester United seemingly interested in his services. However, Real Madrid called for a press conference earlier this week in which it was announced that the defender had extended his contract with the Los Blancos. The new deal will see Ramos stay at the Bernabeu till 2020.
Casillas, who was himself unceremoniously shown the door at Real Madrid, feels that Ramos will help lead the club to further glory. Iker Casillas left the Santiago Bernabeu for FC Porto under controversial circumstances as reports suggested that he was almost forced out of the club to make way for Manchester United’s David De Gea. However, De Gea’s transfer has not yet materialized, but the emotional and hasty exit of the 33-year-old had further fractured the relationship between the Real Madrid faithful and President Florentino Perez. The World Cup winning shot stopper won 3 Champions League with Los Blancos during his time with the club.
Casillas, however, was one of the first to congratulate Sergio Ramos on his contract extension. The 33-year-old took to Twitter to extend his congratulations to his former team mate.
He wrote: “Ia m happy for your deserved contract renewal, Sergio,”
“Ia m sure that you are going to bring lots more happiness to Madridistas!”
Me alegro por esa merecida renovacion querido @SergioRamos! Vas a seguir dando alegrias a todos los madridistas, seguro!
