Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany Hails ‘phenomenal’ Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has given his backing to the club to sign “phenomenal” Kevin De Bruyne.

De Bruyne, 23, was in sensational form for Wolfsburg, last season, following his a 20 million move from Chelsea FC.

The Belgian, who was named as the Bundesliga player of the year, is being pursued by a host of European Clubs, most notably, Manchester City, who are looking to sign de Bruyne to revamp their midfield following a disappointing season.

Kompany gives his thumbs up

Kompany, who has played alongside the former Chelsea FC midfielder De Bruyne for Belgium, knows first hand what de Bruyne will bring to the City team should they be able to strike a deal to bring the midfielder to Manchester.

As quoted saying by ESPN FC, Kompany said: “Let me put it this way, he’s definitely not going to make the team weaker. He’s a phenomenal player. Our squad can become stronger by getting everyone in the right direction.

“We had so many players – and I was one of them, especially at the end of last season – who didn’t perform and if they do then it’s like having six or seven new players. Then we do have a stronger squad.

.

“Players like Raheem [Sterling] and [Fabian] Delph, from what I’ve seen, will give us something different.”

What will de Bruyne bring to City?

Kevin De Bruyne played more accurate through balls than any other player in the Bundesliga. He also created 111 chances, the second best across the top 5 leagues in Europe.

Besides, De Bruyne was also named as Bundesliga Player of the Year beating the likes of Manuel Neuer and Arjen Robben.

He was one of the key reasons Wolfsburg won the German Cup and finished second in the league.

Should he make the move to City, the squad will have a ready made back up to the goals of Yaya Toure as he slowly moves to the wrong side of his thirties.

Not just that, de Bruyne will also be a ready made back up to the creativity of David Silva, should the influential playmaker suffer an injury.

Overall, he is a fantastic fail-safe option to have for Manchester City at this stage, but, it does not look quite likely that he will slot into the playing XI right away.
