Gold Cup: Haiti Rally To Hold Panama To 1-1 Draw In Opener

Panama and Haiti opened their 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament on Tuesday by playing to a 1-1 draw at the Toyota Stadium in Texas. .

Alberto Quintero opened the scoring in the 55th minute for Panama, who were the surprise team of the last Gold Cup in 2013 when they reached the final before losing to the United States.

Sony Norde got the equalizer in the 85th minute for Haiti, who are making their sixth appearance in the regional tournament.

Panama dominated play for much of Tuesday’s match but they couldn’t capitalize on their chances, especially in the first half.

They each earned a point in the standings in the tough Group A division which also includes the United States and Honduras. The US and Honduras play later Tuesday.

Panama’s next contest is Friday against Honduras in Boston while Haiti squares off against the United States the same day.
