Gianluigi Buffon Admits Interest In Playing In The English Premier League

World Cup winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has admitted to being interested in moving to the English Premier League.

The Juventus shot-stopper is in the twilight of his career and has been with Juventus for the past 15 years, but the Italian admitted that if given the opportunity, he would like to play for an English club. Juventus are to play against La Liga outfit Sevilla after beating English side Manchester City in the first game of the Champions League group stage.

Juventus lost to FC Barcelona in the Champions League finals this year and have been struggling since then. The Old Lady side also lost many of their key players to transfers and the new signings have still not started to fire. The 37-year-old explained that the new players are still adapting and the team is looking to find the right balance. He further explained that some of the stars in Juventus’ ranks have not started to fire on all cylinders.

I would have loved to have played in the Premier League — Buffon

.

Speaking in a recent interview, as quoted by reputed Italian journalist, Gianluca di Marzio, Buffon said:

“We have changed a lot and we have to regain our balance. Some of our international players have not reached their quality yet this season but we will be back. In two to three months we can evaluate the league standings.”

The legendary shot-stopper then threw light on his training and approach towards the game, which has helped him remain competitive throughout the years.

“During the years I’ve changed my approach to work and I still love the challenge. This is the most important aspect for me.”

When asked if the Italian would like to ply his trade in a different country, Buffon emphasised on the Premier League as his destination. The 37-year-old is of the opinion that he can still continue at the top level for another two and a half years and sees England as a destination where he can have his swan song.

“I would have loved to have played in the Premier League. I have spent 10 years at Parma, 15 at Juventus and I think I still have around two and a half years left at the top. There still may be an opportunity.”

If the veteran does indeed move, many top English clubs including the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool FC and Manchester City would be happy to sign the Italian.
