Former Manchester United star Angel Di Maria on Thursday, divulged the reason behind his sudden departure from English giants to Paris Saint-Germain.
The sudden retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson from the helm of Manchester United created quite a chaos among the board members, as few rushed decision were sanctioned. The desperation reached its extreme after Manchester United failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, as Real Madrid superstar Angel Di Maria was signed more as statement, rather than to address any specific weakness in the squad.
The Argentina international was a key figure for Real Madrid in the victory over Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final, was signed by stumping the British transfer record, but never really had his heart set in on the move.
The winger, who was sold within a year to French side PSG for a considerable loss, wona t be forgotten easily especially the stunt he pulled to see through his move. Di Maria admitted that he pulled the stunt as he wanted to leave United a as quickly as possiblea .
He told Spanish newspaper . Marca(h/t Express): “My intention was always to stay [at Madrid]. I don’t really know what happened on the inside [of the deal].
“These are things that representatives deal with. It happens in football.”
Di Maria was quick to cite his reason behind his frustrating season “I started very well but then I had problems with people at the club, I started being left on the bench, then my home was robbed. It all just made me want to get out of there as quickly as possible.”
Di Maria: A Snake?
The Red Devils faithfully had given him a warm welcome, but his departure has polarised the camp into two factions. A faction that understands the reasons behind him leaving United, while the other, that had been infuriated by the way Di Maria had angled for the transfer by not returning to Old Trafford, forcing the move.
