Ukranian winger Yevhen Konoplyanka, who signed for La Liga side Sevilla in the summer transfer window, rejecting offers from English clubs has mocked the English Premier League.
The 25-year-old was linked with a move to English sides Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur, but instead chose to sign for reigning Europa League champions Sevilla.
The former Dnipro man, who moved to Sevilla on a free transfer earlier this year has insisted that he has made the correct decision in snubbing interest from the Premier League in favour of a move to Spain.
Konoplyanka was part of the Dnipro side, who lost to Sevilla in the Europa League finals this year. The Ukranian was close to signing for Liverpool FC in January of 2014, when the Anfield side met his buyout clause, but Dnipro president Ihor Kolomoyskyi refused to sanction his transfer.
If I didn’t know how to control a ball, I may have gone to England
.
In a recent interview, the 25-year-old mocked the English Premier League’s poor level of technique as compared to the La Liga, while hailing the latter as the best in the world.
Speaking in a recent interview, as quoted by The Guardian, Konoplyanka said:
a If I was two-and-a-half metres tall and didna t know how to control a ball then I may have gone to England, but here [in Spain], the footballa s more technical. Ita s the best.
a I dona t regret coming to Spain. I didna t receive many offers. Some came from the Premier League and Sevilla and Atl tico from Spain, but I kept thinking that Sevilla were right for me.
a I was very anxious when making my choice, to the point that I got nervous and lost three kilos beforehand. I loved Sevillaa s insistence on signing me, so I think I made the right decision.a
