FIFA To Impose 2016 Transfer embargo On Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid?

It is not a particularly good time for Real Madrid, and that fact seems to have compounded this week, as they are set to face a lengthy transfer ban in the 2016/17 season.

Real Madrid’s cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid are also facing the transfer ban, which is being dished out to the two clubs because of the alleged illegal signing of youth players.

The Los Blancos’ arch rivals FC Barcelona have been serving such a ban this year, and have had to go through this transfer embargo in the last two windows.

However, one problem seems to be that although there is a transfer ban on the two Madrid clubs, FIFA does not seem to have issued the transfer embargo on them yet, according to Barcelona-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo, who also wrote to the world’s apex football governing body about this issue.

The bans that have been imposed mean that both Real and Atletico would be unable to sign any players in both the January and the summer transfer windows of 2016. However, according to Mundo Deportivo, no officia has yet signed the documents that would actually impose the transfer embargo on the two clubs.

.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter is himself currently serving out a three-month ban from the helm of affairs, with UEFA president Michel Platini being out for the same reason. This seems to be the main reason why the actual sanction has not been imposed yet.

Transfer embargo to scupper Real’s targets

Real Madrid, who have had their weaknesses exposed by FC Barcelona last weekend, have been linked to a number of players, with Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea being one of their biggest targets. However, if this sanction does go through, it might mean another year’s wait for the Madrid club before they could sign one of the best young Spanish goalkeepers at the moment.
