Manchester United officials are not looking to further extend the contract of Belgian Midfielder Marouane Fellaini, which expires in 2018.
According to goal.com . , Manchester United is in no hurry to renew the contract of 27 year old midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who was the first major signing of that ill fated year when David Moyes was handed over the reigns at the club.
Fellaini signed from Everton for a reported 28 million pounds, but has scored only 8 goals in 60 experience for the cup in league, cup and European ties. He has been a much maligned figure at Old Trafford, appearing only 15 times in his debut season, 2013-14, without finding the back of the net.
His next season, which saw the entry of ‘The Philosopher’ Louis Van Gaal as United manager, saw him have a more profound impact for the team. But his tally of 7 goals was never enough to impress the United faithful and this season he has again found himself mostly warming the bench as the club have brought in high caliber players in the midfield.
The Expendable
Van Gaal had announced, in the beginning of the season, that he intends to use Fellaini as a striker, although the player has stated that his favorite position is in Midfield. This seems to indicate that Van Gaal feels that he has better midfielders at his disposal and his position in the bench is guaranteed only by the lack of strikers in the squad making him the most expendable member of the squad.
The same goal.com article reports that United will look to offload the player during the transfer market should he have a good run with his national team.
