Legendary Italian manager Arrigo Sacchi believes FC Barcelona will be invincible if Paul Pogba joins them from Juventus, but, Johann Cruyff has his doubts on the Frenchman amidst growing speculation of a deal between the two clubs.
The future of Paul Pogba has been the subject of intense speculation over the past few weeks, with recent reports in Catalan media suggesting that Juventus and FC Barcelona have reached a gentlemana s agreement regarding the transfer of the player in 2016/17 season despite the Juventus chief Marota denying reaching an agreement but confirming an 80m Euro offer.
Pogba, who is subject of interest from a host of top European clubs, including Chelsea FC, Manchester City, PSG, and Real Madrid, however, reports in Italy as well as Spain tout the Catalan giants favorites for the Juventus man’s signature.
Should the move happen, Arrigo Sacchi believes that FC Barcelona, who have just won a treble, will be unbeatable.
“His potential is enormous,” Sacchi said in an interview with Barcelona-based publication El Mundo Deportivo.
“He is a player who is improving but at 22 , he is very interesting for any club. If Barca already has a fantastic team now, it would be even more so. With the attacking trio (Neymar, Leo Messi, Luis Suarez) and Pogba on the pitch, Barca would be almost invincible.”
Having joined Juventus on minimum compensation following expiry of his contract at Manchester United in 2012, Pogba is an important member of a side that has won the Serie A and Coppa Italia double this season, as well as reaching the final of the Champions League.
“He has everything to define an era,” Sacchi said. “He is like Frank Rijkaard, whom I coached at AC Milan, because of his technique, his strength, his sense of play. Like Frank, he is very powerful on the pitch. I believe that Pogba has even more of a huge offensive projection.”
While FC Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has claimed that he will beat Manchester City, Chelsea FC, and Real Madrid to Paul Pogba, club legend and Laporta’s idol Johann Cruyff has cast doubts over the Frenchman improving the squad at Spanish and European champions.
“Pogba is a great player, but we have to look at whether he makes the team better,” Cruyff told Marca.
Catalan newspaper Sport had on Sunday claimed that Juventus had the following three offers on the table for the former Manchester United youngster: a 80m + a 10m in add-ons from FC Barcelona to purchase in July 2016, a 50m + Brazilian midfielder Oscar from Chelsea FC to purchase this summer, and a cash-only a 100m offer from Manchester City to purchase the France international this summer.
It was then confirmed that Barcelona did have a bid rejected for the Juventus star.
However, Catalan newspaper Sport, yesterday, were adamant that a gentlemana s agreement has been reached between the two clubs with the deal to be sealed after the FC Barcelona presidential election on 18th July with Paul Pogba set to move to the Catalan giants for 2016/17 season.
