Liverpool fans breathed a sigh of relief as the Raheem Sterling transfer saga finally came to an end last night, with a deal close to A?49 million agreed between Manchester City and Liverpool FC
The English international will become the 12th most expensive footballer of all time at only 20, when his transfer from Merseyside to Manchester is completed. After a number of bids in the region of A?35m to A?45m were rejected by the Merseyside club, the Reds finally accepted a A?49 million offer, making it a record transfer between two Premier League clubs for an English player, second only to Fernando Torres’ transfer from Liverpool FC to Chelsea.
The winger was offered a A?100,000-a-week contract by the Reds, which he had rejected, and is now reportedly set to make a whooping A?200,000-a-week at the Etihad. It was a long drawn transfer saga, with the 20-year-old doing all he could to force through a move away from Anfield.
Both Liverpool and the fans, must be happy that it’s finally come to an end, while Manchester City would be delighted to have landed one of the most coveted youngsters, in Sterling. Which of the two teams got the better deal, remains to be seen.
Fans took to Twitter to pay their last respects to the departing legend i.e. Raheem Sterling-
