Bayern Munich have been imperious for much of the season, and continued in similar vein on Tuesday with a thumping 4-0 over Olympiakos in their UEFA Champions League Group F meeting
The Bavarian giants reaffirmed their status as one of the favourites for the UEFA Champions League with a crushing 4-0 win over Greek side Olympiakos. Douglas Costa, Robert Lewandowski and Thomas MA?ller — arguably Bayern’s top three players this season — all scored within the first 20 minutes, effectively ending the game as a contest before it had even truly begun.
French youngster Kingsley Coman added a fourth in the 69th minute despite the sending off of centre-back Holger Badstuber, who has only recently recovered from a long-term injury to take his place in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI.
Fans in awe of Bayern Munich quality
On a night when FC Barcelona took apart AS Roma 6-1, Bayern Munich registered their own emphatic home victory, scoring 3 goals in a scintillating opening 20 minutes of the match. Unsurprisingly, fans on social media were left to wonder what the outcome would be if the two European giants had to face off against each other in the Champions League, as they did last season at the semi-final stage.
Meanwhile, the likes of Lewandowski, Douglas Costa and MA?ller received praise — the latter for becoming the youngest player to register 50 wins in the competition’s history — while there was amusement at the antics of David Alaba, who watched the game from the stands.
Mad thing about Bayern is, if all the shots against them went in, and they themselves scored no goals, they’d still be top of the league.
