Manchester United travel to the Volkswagen Arena in Germany in a do-or-die clash against Wolfsburg that will determine their fate in the UEFA Champions League.
United manager Louis Van Gaal faces one of the most daunting challenges in his career so far as he has to take his team to Germany and produce a win over German club Vfl Wolfsburg, if they are to proceed beyond the group stages of the Champions League.
“Football is about scoring goals, that is the most important aspect of football, as a manager you cannot be pleased when it is like this, you have to score,” said Van Gaal (via UEFA.com).
“As a team, mostly I can say I am satisfied. This is the most important match at this moment. It is very important for the club to continue in the Champions League and the players want to show their qualities at the highest podium.”
Manchester United have something to prove .
Van Gaal emphasized that the club had a lot to prove and show that they were worthy of continuing beyond the group stages.
The Dutchman said: “You have to prove as a club, as a team, as players a you have to prove yourself that you can continue, that’s why it is very important to beat the opponent tomorrow. We cannot depend on the result of PSV.”
However, the Manchester United manager also expressed confidence and belief ahead of the crucial encounter.
“You never know for sure but I have the experience as a manager that the goals will come,” added Van Gaal. “Because when you are creating chances in the end you will score and finish those chances. That is why we have that belief, it’s a matter of time and I hope we can prove it tomorrow already.”
