Griezmann On The Mark, As Atletico Madrid Stroll Past Getafe.

Antonio Griezmann scored twice to help the home team level with Barcelona at 12 points, albeit for only twenty four hours.

Diego Simeone made six changes to the side that beat Eibar at the weekend, with Fernando Torres getting the nod ahead of summer signing Jackson Martinez.

Atletico opened the scoring after just four minutes, as Gabi’s mistimed shot from the edge of the area was met by Antonio Griezmann, who took control and sent the ball rolling into the far corner from close range.

The match was dull for the most part, with chances few and far between. Atletico Madrid seemed happy to be able to protect their lead, rather than attempting to seal the win with a second goal.

. The visitors had a couple of chances to draw level, when Ferreira Carrasco fired wide of the post from a distance in the first half. The second golden opportunity came when Oliver Torres’ free-kick fell straight into the path of Stefen Scepovic, who raced through to goal only for his effort to be parried by Oblak.

The Los Colchoneros did seal the deal in the final stages, as Tiago chipped a clever pass towards Martinez who crossed for Griezmann to apply the finishing touch.

The Frenchman has now scored five times this season and is undoubtedly their talisman. If he can have a 25-goal season, Atletico have a decent chance against Barcelona and Real Madrid.
