Borussia Dortmund have announced that former Mainz manager Thomas Tuchel will take over the reins of the club after Jurgen Klopp departs in the summer.
Klopp had revealed last week this the current campaign will be his last with the club and they have acted fast and have reportedly tied down Tuchel to a three-year contract. The club released a statement that said, a Borussia Dortmund will present Thomas Tuchel officially in the week after the end of the season. BVB ask for understanding that there will be no comments made from anybody concerned at this time.a
The news will excite Dortmund fans as Tuchel is one of the top young managers in Germany. Tuchel was appointed manager of Mainz a year after Klopp left. His spell at Mainz was the club’s best ever as they qualified for the Europa League twice and also finished a best-ever fifth in the 2010 season.
His coaching style is said to be similar to that of Jurgen Klopp as Mainz often played with a very fast-paced, high pressing and counter-attacking style that led to high finishes in the league. Tuchel has been approached by top Bundesliga sides like Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke, but turned them down at the end of the 2013-14 season. He is currently on the final year of his contract but has decided to take a sabbatical.
Earlier in the week, Jurgen Klopp had said that he was leaving Dortmund because he no longer felt he was the ‘perfect coach’ for Dortmund. His side have struggled under Klopp this season and are currently in ninth place with 36 points from 29 games. The German has been linked with a move to the Premier League where Manchester City and Liverpool are reportedly interested in offering him a role based on the recent performances and results. Both Brendan Rodgers and Manuel Pellegrini have been under some pressure and could face the sack come summer.
