Chelsea FC striker Diego Costa feels that a little affection is all that Manchester United flop Radamel Falcao needs to find his lethal form from his Atletico and FC Porto days.
Falcao had a forgettable first season in the Premier League on-loan at Manchester United, where he scored only 4 goals from 29 appearances. The Colombian hit-man then returned to former club AS Monaco, from where he has joined Chelsea FC on another season long loan to the English shores.
I think it’s good for us that he didn’t have the best of seasons as that’s why he’s now with us- Diego Costa on Radamel Falcao’s torrid loan to the Red Devils
The Brazilian born Spanish striker has previously played with the 29-year-old Colombian, during their time with Spanish club Atletico Madrid, where the duo formed one of the most feared strike-partnership. Speaking in a recent interview, Costa said:
“Radamel Falcao is a very talented player who just needs a bit of affection.
“I’ve spent a couple of seasons with him and I reckon things went fairly well. He did a lot for me and he’s a great striker. He’s a top bloke too. He is a really big-hearted guy and that’s the most important thing.
“He is going to get everything he needs and I think he’ll be fine; I suffered an injury similar to his in 2011 and now I’m fine. All he needs is the consistency of regular football and to feel loved – which I think he’ll get from the manager – as well as his team-mates who will all be there for him.
“I think it’s good for us that he didn’t have the best of seasons as that’s why he’s now with us.”
Will Falcao and Costa form the best strike-partnership of the league?
.
The 26-year-old had a brilliant first season with Chelsea FC, helping the Stamford Bridge outfit to win the Premier League, with his 20 goals. However, in contrast Falcao had a dismal season at Old Trafford, struggling with fitness and form, following the knee injury he suffered to last year’s World Cup.
Jose Mourinho has insisted that he signed the 29-year-old not as a cover for Costa, but instead to play the two together, in a hope to reignite the excellent career of Falcao. Former Chelsea FC midfielder Michael Essien had earlier in an interview claimed that Mourinho would succeed at what Van Gaal fail, to help Falcao once again reach the levels that he is capable of. The former FC Porto striker had an incredible goals to games ratio during his time with Atletico and FC Porto, which rightly had earned him the tag to be one of the best strikers in the world.
The knee injury has however, taken it’s toll on Falcao, who lost a slight acceleration, which previously helped him gain a yard over the covering defender. However, Mourinho might not be able to get Falcao his speed back, he can surely help the Colombian get his confidence back, something which he’s seemed bereft of lately.
