Diego Costa Admits To Being Overweight In Pre-Season; Accepts Complacency At The Heart Of Chelsea FC Downfall

Chelsea FC forward Diego Costa has admitted that his poor form was as a result of being over-weight at the beginning of the new season, while also accepting that complacency within the squad has been a big reason for the poor form of the club.

Diego Costa has looked a shadow of the player who terrorized defences last season with Chelsea FC and before that with Atletico Madrid.

.

The Spaniard has scored just once for Chelsea FC in the Premier League in six games, which is one of the major reasons why Chelsea FC is struggling in 16th place in the Premier League, garnering just eight points in eight games.

Diego Costa admits being overweight

The Spanish international, who is currently serving a suspension for both, club and country, was quoted saying by Goal.com:

“I got injured at the end of the season and then I went on holiday.

a Maybe I got out of my diet and when I came back I was not the way I was supposed to be. I was a little bit overweight. That affected my game.”

Complacency at the heart of the problem at Chelsea FC: Diego Costa

Diego Costa has echoed the sentiments of manager Jose Mourinho, when the Portuguese urged his players to take responsibility for their poor form.

He added: a You can be selfish and blame it on the manager but Ia m not going to do that. Ia m responsible 100 percent and so are the other guys.

a We need to blame the players because we came back from holiday very confident. We thought we could go back into the way that it was last season.

a Then, by the time we actually realised the situation we were in, the team was already in a bad position. All we can do now is train very hard, work very hard and try to get back to where we were last season.”
