Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has admitted that he would love to stay at the club where he has won a lot of accolades in the last ten years.
Speaking after receiving the 2015 Football Writers’ Association Tribute Award, Drogba said, “When you have achieved so much and won so many trophies like we have done in the past 10 years, that creates something special.
“I hope, and the club makes me believe, I am part of this big family, so we are going to find the best thing for both of us to promote the club in the best way.
After lifting the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, Drogba had spells with Shanghai Shenhua and Galatasaray, but returned to the club last summer after signing a one-year contract. Since then, he has scored six goals in all competitions despite being a squad player. Drogba added, “When I left this club [the first time], I was saying that I had done everything I wanted to do, but I think now that I did not do everything, I think there is more to do.
“I love this club and would love to be part of this club for the future, with the new players.”
The 36-year old also spoke about the defeat that Chelsea suffered at the hands League One side Bradford and felt that Chelsea did not play their best football, a Of course we are not proud of what happened. We did not play our best football, we did not perform the way we wanted to perform.
a But you have to give credit to Bradford who came, and had a dream, and showed some courage. First they came not to lose, and during the game their ideas changed and they came to win. Congratulations to them.
a Everybody was disappointed but the good thing in football, especially English football, is in two days we have another game, so we have to focus on this game and try to play better than we did at the weekend,a Drogba added.
Thierry Henry is my idol
The Ivorian also revealed who his idol is and it will definitely come as a surprise to Chelsea fans after he spoke very highly of former Arsenal legend Thierry Henry. Drogba said that he always wanted to be like Henry, “He was the kind of player I always wanted to look like by scoring all the goals and winning all the trophies with Arsenal, Barcelona and France.
“He was an example and an inspiration to me, so to have my name next to his means a lot to me.”
